Athletics are a big part of the Delaware experience. We've got 23 varsity sports - 11 Men's and 12 Women's - All compete at the NCAA Division I level; football in IAA. All of Delaware's teams compete in the Colonial Athletic Association, except women's rowing, which is independent. Delaware has a strong athletic program that is led by the football team which is consistently ranked among Division I-AA's top 20 and won the NCAA I-AA National Championship in 2003! On a home football Saturday, an average of 20,000 students, alumni and fans - including the 300 member Marching Band - come out to cheer the Fightin' Blue Hens on to victory. Coach K.C. Keeler (UD '81), who begins his fourth year as head coach, continues the Delaware tradition he inherited from Tubby Raymond, who retired after becoming the ninth coach in football history to win 300 games.
