Football is life in Newark, DE on Saturdays during football season. One of my favorite parts of being a student here at Delaware is being a part of the incredible excitement of Blue Hen Football. The football team here at UD has been really good in recent years. In 2003, they won the Division I-AA National Championship and JUST LAST YEAR went to Chattanooga, TN, and were the runners-up for National Championship. UD definitely has one of the best football programs in all of Division I-AA, under the direction of Coach K.C. Keeler (who is actually a UD alum!). Delaware fans are some of the best in the country, too... The student section is always crazy and fun, and Delaware Stadium is usually packed with about 20,000 screaming, cheering fans! Despite the weather, there was a full-capacity crowd at today's game. There were a lot of parents since this is Parents and Family Weekend. And apparently they were a bunch of brave parents, because even when the rain came at halftime, there were still lots of people to sing along with the football team and marching band for the Fight Song after the Blue Hens finished their 38-7 romping of the "Great" Danes from the University of Albany. The football games are always really exciting, and it's especially fun to go as a band member. From the parade through the tailgaiting parties, to the Pre-Game Show, to sitting in the stands to cheer on the football team, to playing the Halftime and Postgame Shows... we have a lot of fun. I felt like, despite the wet weather, we played pretty well today. And the crowd seemed pretty enthusiatic about our show. We're playing music from One (Three Dog Night), 25 or 6 to 4 (Chicago), Spinning Wheel (Blood, Sweat, and Tears), God Bless the Child (Blood, Sweat, and Tears), and Pictures at an Exhibition. Hopefully we can recreate another good performance like today's when we go to Allentown, PA for the Intercollegiate Marching Band Festival tomorrow. It's something the band does every year and something that I'm really excited about since I have a lot of other friends in marching bands at other schools. So tomorrow should be a lot of fun. But in order to be ready, I need to go throw in some laundry. Please keep coming back to read more! I'll update frequently... Thanks for reading!
WHAT's TODAY?! GAMEDAY!
