AREA OF EMPHASIS AT DELAWARE

The Apparel Design major studies the conceptualization, design and pre-production of products for apparel-related industries. Students are required to complete courses in apparel design such as apparel assembly, flat pattern, draping, fashion drawing and rendering, and computer-aided fashion design. Students work closely with an apparel company in advanced courses. They may also select from a variety of apparel electives, including dress and culture, portfolio development, and history of costume. In addition to textiles, fashion, and design classes, students also complete courses in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. These courses help students research and analyze trends, evaluate consumer markets, use technology to conceptualize, design and produce apparel products, and prepare promotional presentations.
