The Fashion Merchandising (FM) major studies the planning, production, promotion, and distribution of products in order to meet consumer demand in fashion industries. The program emphasizes the business aspects of planning, buying, promoting and selling textiles, apparel, and other fashion related products. In addition to coursework in textiles and apparel, the curriculum requires courses from the humanities, social sciences, sciences, and business. Specialized courses and elective options add diversity to the program and offer an opportunity for students to select courses in apparel design, computer-aided design, historic costume, and textile conservation. These courses help students plan and promote fashion products, design and use visual communication, define and analyze target markets, and evaluate products and consumption patterns.
