International relations focuses on issues and problems that arise out of the global character of world affairs in our era. The field’s subject matter encompasses a wide range of areas and concerns including politics and government, business, culture, technology, the environment, forms of social interaction, issues of race and gender, and the impact of geography and history upon world development.
AREA OF EMPHASIS AT DELAWARE
The international relations major at Delaware is founded upon a special commitment to interdisciplinary and interdepartmental studies. The major, offered through the Department of Political Science and International Relations, defines its intellectual center in the fields of political science while facilitating indepth exploration of four fields: economics, foreign languages and literature, geography, and history. Further, majors choose courses in one of four concentrations: development, diplomacy and world order, international political economy, and US foreign policy. In addition, majors choose courses from one of six regional specializations: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Russia/Central Europe.
