Latin American Studies focuses on issues of Latin American history, geography, politics and culture. Our subject matter encompasses a wide range of topics including art and literature, indigenous cultures, the colonial legacy, nationalism, liberalism and globalization, and problems of gender, race, and economic inequality. Latin American Studies prepares students with the practical and theoretical tools they'll need to think and work in the globalized arena of the 21st century.

AREA OF EMPHASIS AT DELAWARE

The Latin American Studies program is supported by the University of Delaware's strong commitment to interdisciplinary studies. The Program offers both a B.A. degree and a minor, designed to prepare undergraduate students for careers as specialists in Latin America. This interdepartmental program provides students with comprehensive training in Latin American history, politics, geography, anthropology, literature and the arts, and Spanish language. Elective fields of study include Women’s Studies, Economics, Sociology, and Portuguese language. In addition, all students are encouraged to attend a semester or winter program of study abroad in a Latin American country.
