The Department of Accounting & MIS offers the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Accounting. The undergraduate program is designed to prepare the student for a career in industry, government, or public accounting. Many accounting majors also pursue the minor in management Information Systems that is offered by the department. A Major in Management Information Systems will be available beginning in the fall of 2003. During the first and second years, majors take a variety of courses to establish a general liberal arts background. The program is designed to provide flexibility in the selection of humanities and social and natural science courses. The third and fourth years are concentrated in the professional accounting and business background. The major courses include accounting information systems, intermediate, cost, income tax, advanced accounting, and auditing. Case studies and practical exercises give students the opportunity to work directly with accounting problems. The program provides preparation for the CPA, CMA and other professional certifications.
