Mathematics - the study of patterns, relations, quantity and space - is both a science unto itself and a tool for many other disciplines including the physical and life sciences, engineering, economics and sociology. Mathematicians use the principle of logic, number theory, quantitative and qualitative reasoning to solve problems in a broad range of fields.
AREA OF EMPHASIS AT DELAWARE
The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics program is a collaboration with the Department of Economics. Students graduating with this degree will be well prepared for job opportunities in a financial institution doing marketing research or economics forecasting. Students interested in actuarial work or a graduate education in Financial Mathematics should enroll in this program. Since the curriculum has an emphasis on analytical thinking and critical reading, it may serve as a possible pre-law major.
