Mathematics - the study of patterns, relations, quantity and space - is both a science unto itself and a tool for many other disciplines including the physical and life sciences, engineering, economics and sociology. Mathematicians use the principle of logic, number theory, quantitative and qualitative reasoning to solve problems in a broad range of fields.

AREA OF EMPHASIS AT DELAWARE

The Bachelor of Science program in Mathematical Sciences requires more science and advanced mathematics courses. Students in this program often declare a minor in computer science or in a physical science discipline. It is appropriate for students who desire to pursue further study in graduate school, or to work for an industrial or government agency where analytical and computational skills are required.
