The Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Biology is an interdisciplinary major offered in collaboration between the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Biological Sciences. The major provides a strong background in biology, mathematics, chemistry and physics appropriate for students who wish to pursue a career or graduate studies in biomedical and life sciences. Students have access and make use of modern laboratory and computational facilities. Significant use of modern computing technology and mathematical software (graphical, numeric and symbolic) is used across the mathematics curriculum. The integration of biological lab work andmathematical modeling and analysis will enhance the analysis of experimental data, and inform the design of experiments. A degree in Quantitative Biology prepares an individual for various positions in the pharmaceutical industry or other biomedical research labs, and for graduate studies in systems biology, biophysics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, or in applied mathematics. The major is also excellent preparation for a career in science in general, but especially in the study of life sciences (e.g. biophysics, bioinformatics, systems biology, computational biology).
