The major in sociology involves a minimum of 31 credits in sociology course work, plus related work. There are also four formal concentrations within the sociology major. Each concentration is organized around a distinctive set of courses and experiences, including a five-week internship or practicum in an organization related to the student’s specialization. These concentrations are: Social Welfare, Law and Society, Health Services, and Emergency and Environmental Management. Students receive official certification of their concentration, a recognition that can be important in seeking employment or admission to a graduate program.
